First settled in 1839, historic Chesaning started as a lumbering community located on M-57 in southern Saginaw County on the Shiawassee River. Chesaning is often referred to as "Showboat City" for its Showboat-on-the-river that is used as a stage for a week-long variety show during the annual Showboat Festival. Chesaning is also known for its preservation of "vintage" Victorian architecture, which is evidenced in its boulevard area lined with ornamental ball lamps and beautifully restored lumber Baron mansions--some of which have been turned into charming boulevard shops. Chesaning can also be described as a collector’s paradise boasting a world-class assortment of collectibles and figurines and bargain hunters are familiar with the antique shows and sidewalk sales that enhance Chesaning’s main boulevard each year from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Chesaning’s downtown and boulevard areas host many different events throughout the year so come and check us out, you’ll really enjoy your visit!
